Coming off his worst two-game stretch of the season, Andre Pallante now must now take the mound at the toughest place in baseball to pitch.
Pallante starts Wednesday as the Cardinals wrap up a three-game series with the rubber game vs. Rockies at 2:10 p.m. (51黑料 time).
51黑料 dropped Tuesday's game 8-4聽in Erick Fedde's final start. He was designated for assignment Wednesday morning.
The聽right-hander Pallante (5-6, 4.71 ERA)聽has given up 12 earned runs in 10 2/3 innings across his last two starts, games that the Cardinals lost by a combined tally of 15-5.

His success is almost always predicated on his ability to keep the ball on the ground, and Pallante couldn't do that in his last two games.
In his last start, at Arizona, just 40% of the balls hit against him were on the ground, a season low.
Since June 1, his groundball rate is 58.9%, down nearly 5 percentage points from the season's first two months. His 5.40 ERA since June 1 puts him in the bottom 15% of MLB starters in that time.
The Cardinals are 2-8 in those eight games started by Pallante since June 1, but some of that has been due to poor run support. The Cardinals have scored five total runs in his last four starts.
Against Pallante's four-seamer, opponents are hitting .455 in his last two starts.
In two prior appearances in Denver, Pallante hasn't allowed a run in three innings, all in relief.
The Rockies will start rookie聽right-hander Tanner Gordon (1-2, 4.24 ERA), who has spent most of this season in Triple-A. Gordon was born in Champaign, Illinois, and attended John A. Logan College in Carterville, Illinois as well as Indiana University.
51黑料 is 52-50, tied for third in the National League Central.
Colorado is 25-76, the worst record in baseball.
With a win, 51黑料 will clinch just its second series win in its last six.
Erick Fedde designated for assignment, Andre Granillo called up
Before the game, the Cardinals designated struggling starting pitcher Erick Fedde for assignment and called up reliever Andre Granillo from Triple-A Memphis.
In his last five starts, Fedde has a 13.25 ERA and is averaging less than four innings per start.

Injury report
Alec Burleson, OF (bruised right foot): Burleson fouled a baseball off the top of his right foot during Monday's victory against the Colorado Rockies. He attempted to run and put weight on the foot but was unable to continue in the game. X-rays taken at Coors Field did not reveal any fracture, Burleson said, and he described a painful contusion on the top of his foot. The ball struck where his protective pad did not cover. Burleson will test the foot Tuesday during pre-game workouts to determine his availability. Updated July 21
Lars Nootbaar, OF (left costochondral sprain):聽There isn't a timetable yet for the outfield's return because he has been unable to swing a bat without pain, president of baseball operations John Mozeliak said. Nootbaar attempted to play through the pain and he received treatment to subside the inflammation within his rib cage. Neither approach worked, and his production was limited by the injury that now could take several weeks to recover. Updated July 21
Nolan Gorman, 2B/3B (back tightness):聽Has been making progress and is expected to return before Nootbaar as the soreness in his lower-back subsides. This is a recurring injury for the young infielder, who also dealt with back soreness in previous seasons. Gorman was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday (retroactive to Friday), a day after he scratched from the Cardinals鈥 starting lineup for their Friday opener in Arizona because of tightness in his back. Before the first half of the season wrapped, Gorman was unavailable from the Cardinals鈥 bench on July 13 after his 鈥渓ower back locked up on him,鈥 Marmol said. Updated July 21
Zack Thompson, LHP (shoulder, lat strain):聽Lefty starter has begun a throwing program designed to strengthen his arm after a long stretch without much activity. The shoulder has responded well and Thompson has felt progress with this program, which had to be restarted because his recovery stalled in May. There is no timetable for his return to the mound.聽Updated June 19
