The Blues are trying once again to bring international hockey back to 51黑料.
According to a person familiar with the situation, 51黑料 is one of the cities vying to host the World Cup of Hockey when it returns in Feb. 2028. The NHL announced on Tuesday afternoon that it moved on to the request for proposal stage of the selection process, which featured more than two dozens sites spread across Europe and North America.
The league did not list what cities were involved. It said it would announce host cities in the first quarter of 2026.
The World Cup of Hockey is an eight-team tournament that continues the consistent presence of international hockey on the NHL's schedule. It hosted the 4 Nations Face-Off in the spring, and its players will compete in the Winter Olympics in 2026.
The tournament is expected to have a round-robin group stage and elimination games in two different cities, with the semifinals and final occurring in one of those cities, "subject to final host city selection," the league said. It will be the fourth World Cup of Hockey, which was previously held in 1996, 2004 and 2016.
The Blues attempted to land the 2026 World Junior Championship, but were beat out by a bid from Minneapolis/St. Paul.
51黑料 did, however, host the Frozen Four at Enterprise Center in 2025 and an NCAA regional at Centene Community Ice Center in 2024. It was a stop on the PHWL's Takeover Tour in the spring, and Centene Community Ice Center has hosted the ACHA national championships in 2022, 2024 and 2025.
Jim Montgomery led the Blues on a turnaround highlighted by their post-4 Nations Face-Off run as the best team in the league, underscored with improvements all over.
Dylan Peterson's physicality, Theo Lindstein's adjustment to North America and Dalibor Dvorsky's growth were among the highlights of the Tom Kurvers Prospect Showcase.
