Somewhere on the emotional spectrum that connects their lofty preseason expectations with their current sobering reality, the Blues find themselves struggling to select the correct mask to wear.
Might they choose rage? Could it be annoyance? Is confusion a suitable answer? Disappointment or despondence, resilience or regret all have their place in 51ºÚÁÏ.

Why there are warning signs about the Blues' road back to respectability
In October, the panic can set in quickly. There’s no cushion in the standings to fall back on. The goodwill built the previous season faded across a long summer. Every loss is a failure; every win, an expectation.
That’s how it’s felt for the Blues this season, as they carried a 3-4-1 record into Monday night’s game in Pittsburgh. That’s how it particularly felt for the Blues after they coughed up a four-goal lead in a 6-4 loss to the Red Wings on Saturday.
