Describe your teaching experience.
My journey began as a Montessori teacher in 1999. In 2008, I joined the Ferguson-Florissant School District. Over the past 16 years, I have taught kindergarten, first and second grades. I have also earned certifications in K-12 Special Reading and STEM, as well as an Educational Specialist degree in teaching elementary mathematics.
How would you explain your teaching style?
I consider my teaching style to be student-centered and adaptable, with an emphasis on fostering a supportive environment. Students should feel confident to explore, ask questions and engage in learning. I tailor my instruction to meet the individual needs of each student, and I actively encourage them to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
What is your goal for your students?
My goal for my students is to cultivate a passion for lifelong learning. I aim to inspire them to not only enjoy the learning process but also to believe in their abilities and embrace their potential for growth. I always strive to do my best in guiding and supporting my students throughout their educational journey. I like to build strong supportive relationships with my students, guiding them academically, socially and emotionally. I actively listen to their concerns and celebrate their achievements in addition to providing encouragement and fostering confidence.
Do you have any special projects you鈥檙e working on?
This year, my students will engage in writing and illustrating their own stories, which they will share with their classmates and families. This project aims to enhance literacy skills and foster creativity among the students.
Additionally, for the past three years, I have facilitated a before-school STEM club at my school, with a focus on novel engineering and coding. The students have consistently demonstrated enthusiasm and a strong interest in these activities.
Every day, I learn as much from them as they do from me. It is a privilege to be part of their growth, and I hope to have a positive influence in any way I can.
