, the latest venture from prolific restaurateur Dave Bailey, will open its doors at 313 North 11th Street on Tuesday (April 5). True to its name, Shift will change its menu of four meat entrees, a vegetarian option and sides weekly.Â
"The idea is to use the space for trying out different dishes," Bailey told Off the Menu when he announced the project last June.
The opening menu will feature barbecue, a preview of . (More on that venture in a bit.)
When Off the Menu spoke to Bailey last week, he said Shift's menus will "start out a little more traditional and then start to migrate."
Shift's regular hours will be 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday through Friday. The restaurant will be carryout-only.
Shift isn't the only new project Bailey is introducing this year.
Now, as Bailey puts the finishing touches on Willow, he has revealed plans for a second event space, Slate, at 1015 Locust. While Willow will accommodate up to 400 people, Slate is designed for events of 50 to 250 guests.
"We want the spaces to work together, but also be able to work independently," Bailey said.
For example, a couple could host their rehearsal dinner at Slate and then hold the wedding at Willow, working with the same event planner and staff at both events.
"We want Slate to be able to switch over to anything from a corporate event to a bar mitzvah to any simple-style event," Bailey said.
Both Willow and Slate will be ready within the next few weeks, and both spaces are already booking events.
Still, that's not all. Bailey has also announced plans to open yet another restaurant -- format and name to be determined -- at 1001 Locust, directly across the street from Willow.
And, yes, he's still planning to open that barbecue restaurant at 1011 Olive Street. Bailey told Off the Menu that when he first announced his barbecue-restaurant plans in April 2014, he hadn't yet acquired the spaces that would become Willow, Slate and the restaurant-to-be-determined.
Once those properties became available, he said, "That's when internally (we decided) we're going to push back and delay the barbecue so that we can purse these other (spaces)."
All of these new projects join Bailey's existing stable of restaurants: Baileys' Chocolate Bar, Rooster, Bridge Tap House & Wine Bar, Baileys' Range and Small Batch.
