Maria Chappelle-Nadal, who worked as a legislative assistant to then-Chair Rita Heard Days, won $46,200 for her claim that she was wrongfully dismissed in August 2022. She also won $30,800 in legal fees from the county.

Chappelle-Nadal, a former Democratic state legislator from University City, filed the claim in February. She started working for Days, a Democrat from Bel-Nor, in November 2020.

An attorney for Chappelle-Nadal said she filed a claim with the Missouri Commission on Human Rights and the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission claiming the county discriminated against her based on her mental health disability and violated her first amendment rights.

The parties mediated the case, and then settled, said the attorney, Jeremy Hollingshead. Hollingshead also sent a statement from Chappelle-Nadal.

鈥淭he last two years of my life have been and remain the darkest of my entire career in public service,鈥� she said in the statement.

Days did not respond to a request for comment.

Chappelle-Nadal served eight years each in the state House and state Senate, where she succeeded Days in 2010. Chappelle-Nadal, who is known for her fight to clean up radioactive waste in the 51黑料 region, left her post in the House because of term limits.

She also gained notoriety in 2017 for calling on social media for the assassination of former President Donald Trump. She apologized for the post and removed it.

Chappelle-Nadal has been critical on social media of County Executive Sam Page and Councilwoman Lisa Clancy.
