Republican Mike Kehoe, who was elected by voters to a four-year term on Nov. 5, released the schedule for his inauguration in an announcement Friday.

Included in the day鈥檚 events is a 鈥淒ay One Action Ceremony鈥� scheduled in the governor鈥檚 office after the swearing-in activities on the south lawn of the Capitol.

The theme of the inauguration is 鈥淪ecuring Missouri鈥檚 Future,鈥� which highlights Kehoe鈥檚 pledge to make crime his No. 1 priority, including a proposal to install a state-appointed board to oversee the 51黑料 Metropolitan Police Department.

A spokeswoman did not respond to questions about what he plans to announce, but on the campaign trail Kehoe focused on improving recruiting efforts for police officers, potentially including educational opportunities and improved benefits.

A handful of bills filed by Republican lawmakers would implement the state-appointed police oversight board. Proposals introduced by Sen. Nick Schroer, R-Defiance, and Rep. Brad Christ, a 51黑料 County Republican, are similar to legislation that failed to advance during the session that ended in May.

Inauguration day will begin with a 9 a.m. event in the Capitol rotunda focusing on first responders and soldiers.

鈥淭he 鈥楽alute to Heroes鈥� event will honor and celebrate the courage, dedication, and sacrifices of military personnel, law enforcement officers, and first responders who have made extraordinary contributions to our state and nation,鈥� an announcement issued by Kehoe鈥檚 inaugural committee notes.

The swearing-in ceremony begins at 11:30 a.m. and will include other statewide elected officials, including 51黑料 County attorney David Wasinger being tapped as lieutenant governor, Sen. Denny Hoskins as secretary of state, Andrew Bailey as attorney general and 51黑料 County attorney and businessman Vivek Malek as treasurer.

All of the new statewide officers are Republicans.

The inauguration event is free, and no tickets are required.

At 1:45 p.m., following the event in the governor鈥檚 office, the Budweiser Clydesdale horse team will travel from the Capitol to the governor鈥檚 mansion located two blocks away.

Beginning at 2 p.m., Kehoe and first lady Claudia Kehoe will greet attendees at the mansion.

The day will end with the Inaugural Ball in the Capitol rotunda beginning at 7 p.m.

鈥淭hese events serve as a symbol of unity, hope, and renewal for the state, as attendees come together to commemorate the start of a new administration,鈥� the announcement notes.

Costs of the events are being funded by donations to an organization headed by Kehoe鈥檚 campaign chief Andy Blunt, a lobbyist who serves as CEO of Husch Blackwell Strategies and also is executive director of the Missouri Cable Telecommunications Association.

Blunt, a longtime friend of Kehoe鈥檚, is the son of former U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt.
