We know God has more important things to worry about than the outcome of the World Series.
But it never hurts to cover your bases. And the Cardinals faithful, from Christians to Muslims to Jews, all have invoked the Almighty in their team's quest for their 12th World Series victory.聽
Rabbi Jim Bennett, of congregation Shaare Emeth in Creve Coeur, said he attended an interfaith event Thursday night in which religious leaders all discussed the "ways our communities are rooting for and praying for a successful World Series."聽
A congregant approached him a week ago during the playoffs before the Shabbat and asked if he would say a prayer for the Cardinals.聽
"I'm not sure if it's theologically appropriate to pray for such things," said Bennett, who immediately clarified that he is a huge Cardinals supporter personally. But, he modified a line from "Fiddler on the Roof" and offered this prayer: "May God Bless and keep the Red Sox far away from a World Series victory."聽

The group of two dozen nuns live shut off from the world but gained notoriety in 1999 when they prayed for fair weather for six months ahead of Pope John Paul鈥檚 visit to 51黑料. When the Pope got off the plane in January, instead of ice and snow, he was greeted by sunshine and temperatures in the 70s.
Sister Mary Catherine Smith, superior of the Holy Spirit Adoration Sisters, also known as the Pink Sisters, told Killeen that she believes they are on sound theological ground.聽
