In California, a hard-working immigrant father is wrestled to the ground and taken into custody. He has three sons currently serving in the Marines. Narciso Barranco has been in this country since the 1990s, working hard and raising a family with members serving this nation. Why is it we can’t accept this man and give him citizenship? ("Lynn Schmidt: Immigrants can embody American values that our policies don't," July 4.)
At the same time, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver is seeking a special Visa for South Sudan basketball player Khaman Maluach because he is over 7 feet tall and dunks a basketball.
It seems that talk radio doesn’t want to see the irony of this situation or is reluctant to question the Department of Homeland Security for fear of reprisal from the masked men gathering people like animal-control officers. ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) takes the easy ones — people just trying to make a living in a country that needs workers to do work that most natural-born citizens won’t do.
