Fever鈥檚 Clark & Lynx鈥檚 Collier Voted As All-Star Captains
Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark and Minnesota Lynx鈥檚 Napheesa Collier have been voted as the captains for the WNBA鈥檚 All-Star Game next month. Clark, now a two-time All-Star, topped the fan voting with 1,293,526 votes, with Collier receiving 100,000 fewer votes as she received her fifth career All-Star nod. 鈥淚t鈥檚 cool that fans get to be a part of it and have a little impact on the game. It鈥檚 going to be special to do it here in this city... Trying to make it the best All-Star that the WNBA has ever had. It鈥檚 certainly a cool honor,鈥 said Caitlin Clark. Clark also led the fan voting last season; however, no captains were selected as the format included an All-Star team facing Team USA. The 23-year-old is averaging 18.2 points and a career-high 8.2 assists for an 8-8 Fever team but has missed seven games through quad and groin injuries. Collier is notching a career-best 24.5 points a game while ranking fourth in the league in rebounds with 8.4 per game as the Lynx sit atop the Western Conference at 14-2. The 28-year-old received the news when her daughter entered the Lynx locker room after Minnesota鈥檚 102-63 win over the Connecticut Sun with a t-shirt that read, 鈥淢ama, you鈥檙e an All-Star.鈥 The remaining eight starters will be revealed on June 30, as current players and media members join fans in the All-Star voting. After the starters are announced, WNBA coaches will determine the 12 reserves by voting for three guards, five frontcourt players and four from either position. Before facing off in Indianapolis on July 19, Clark and Collier will go head-to-head when the Fever take on the Lynx in the Commissioner鈥檚 Cup final on July 1.
