51ºÚÁÏ University’s softball team’s debut game in the NCAA tournament came to a quick end, falling to No. 4 Arkansas 10-0 in five innings on Friday in Fayetteville, Arkansas. SLU will face Indiana, an 11-6 loser to Oklahoma State in the other game in the region, in an elimination game on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The winner of that game will play another elimination game at 7 p.m.
SLU (34-23) didn’t get a hit against Arkansas pitcher Payton Burnham, and had two runners reach base, one on a walk and one on a hit batter.
Meanwhile, Arkansas (41-12) scored five runs in the first inning off SLU starter Taylor Hochman, added one in the second and then scored four in the fourth for a 10-0 lead that set the table for the game to end if the Billikens didn’t score in the fifth inning.Â
SLU had some company on Friday. The tournament's 16 seeded teams went 15-1, outscoring opponents on average 10-1. Thirteen of the 16 games were called early because of college softball's eight-run rule.
