3:35 p.m. UPDATE: Game began with what the teams believe is a window between storms.Ìý
2:20 p.m. UPDATE FROM TAMPA, Fla.: Stormy weather continues to whipsaw through the Tampa Bay area, causing further delay of Sunday's series finale between the Rays and Cardinals. An advertised start time of 3 p.m. 51ºÚÁÏ time has been erased due to "worsening conditions" in the area. Several bands of storms have rolled over Steinbrenner Field and soaked the field.Ìý
10:40 a.m. UPDATE FROM TAMPA, Fla.: Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn is a late scratch from the starting lineup due to knee soreness. Winn has been playing through the knee pain for most of the season, and his spot in the lineup Sunday was in pencil until coaches had a chance to check with Winn on how the knee felt.
The start of the game has been delayed by storms in the area.

From earlier in the day ...Ìý
AsÌýMatthew Liberatore pushes deeper into his first full year as a starter and extends his career-high in innings, he can look back at one of his best career moments for inspiration as he starts Sunday.
Liberatore and the Cardinals wrap up a three-game, four-day series with the rubber game Sunday at 11:35 a.m. (51ºÚÁÏ time) at Tampa.
TheÌýleft-hander Liberatore (6-10, 4.13 ERA) has struggled with velocity dips in recent starts and been limited toÌý75 or fewer pitches in two of his last four starts.
On Sunday, Liberatore will face the team that drafted him. Last time he did so,ÌýLiberatore put together his best and longest career start, eight innings, two hits, no earned runs in 2023 at Tropicana Field.
The Cardinals continue to monitorÌýLiberatore for signs of concern and haveÌýhad internal discussions of using a piggyback approach to alleviate some innings.
On Monday, his last start, Liberatore completed five innings, which is more than any of the five starts before that. He gave up three runs in a no-decision at Miami.
Liberatore's declining fastball velocity has been one of the bigger indicators of trouble. On Monday, it averaged 93 miles per hour, the second-lowest average of the season.
He has thrown his fastball 91 miles per hour or slower seven times this season, and five of them have come in August.Ìý
Right-hander Ryan Pepiot (8-10, 3.95 ERA), the only Butler University Bulldog in the majors, starts for the Rays. Pepiot, who came up with the Dodgers and was part of the Tyler Glasnow trade in December 2023, has a 5.88 ERA in his last six starts.
The teams were off Saturday due to a Buccaneers preseason game next door. In May, the originally scheduled Saturday game was moved to Thursday to avoid conflict.
The Cardinals are 64-66, 5 1/2 games out of the final wild-card spot. A win Sunday would clinch a winning road trip before the Redbirds return home to face Pittsburgh.
The Rays are 62-67 after their win Friday snapped a four-game skid.

Injury report
Alec Burleson, LF (wrist pain): Returned to the starting lineup after missing a game Friday due to pain in his right wrist that would not subside. Was a late scratch for Friday night's game to get treatment. Updated Aug. 24
Masyn Winn, SS (knee): A late scratch Sunday ahead of the series finale after feeling discomfort in his right knee. Winn has been playing through the soreness for most of the season, and he has a daily regimen that involves treatment and training for the knee. He received an anti-inflammatory shot during the All-Star break to alleviate some of the pain. Updated Aug. 24
Nolan Arenado, 3B (right shoulder strain):ÌýArenado said Tuesday the pain in his right shoulder has lessened. The Cardinals plan on him taking his first swings in a controlled setting on Thursday or Friday, and within a week from those he'll begin a throwing program. Arenado went on the 10-day injured list Aug. 1 with a shoulder injury he’s spent the past month trying to play through. There is no timetable for his return.ÌýUpdated Aug. 21Ìý
Brendan Donovan, 2B (sprained toe/left groin):ÌýAn injury sustained before the All-Star break persists and is likely contributing to soreness in his leg and groin, the infielder said recently. The Cardinals placed him in the 10-day injured list Monday retroactive to Friday. He's been prescribed treatment and rest with no timetable for his next baseball activities.ÌýUpdated Aug. 21
Victor Scott II, CF (sprained left ankle): Scott sprained his ankle Saturday while trying to rob a home run from Aaron Judge, and the Cardinals placed him on the 10-day injured list the following day. He is expected to return at the end of that stretch, the Cardinals said. Updated Aug. 18
John King, LHP (left oblique strain):ÌýAdded to the active roster Sunday after three rehab appearances with Class AAA Memphis.ÌýUpdated Aug. 24
Zack Thompson, LHP (shoulder, lat strain):ÌýLefty starter remains on a throwing program in Jupiter, trying to overcome some setbacks as he increased the intensity of his throws through the course of the season. He's visited 51ºÚÁÏ for evaluation to monitor if the injury worsens. Thompson has been sidelined since the start of March and was transferred to the 60-day injured list in early April. There is no timetable for his return to the mound.ÌýUpdated Aug. 6
