51ºÚÁÏ City SC’s struggles continued on a stormy Saturday night in Denver, getting shut out for the eighth time this season in 15 games and failing to win for the 11th consecutive Major League Soccer game, falling to the Colorado Rapids 1-0 in Commerce City, Colo.
The game had a 90-minute severe weather delay just seven minutes into the game, and City SC came out energized after the long wait. But City SC couldn't finish its chances and gave up a goal in the first half and got shut out for the second straight MLS game. City SC had several good scoring chances but couldn’t put anything in.
The defeat will mean more concerns for coach Olof Mellberg, whose team has two wins and five ties in 15 games this season and sits in 27th place out of 30 teams overall. The game ended a run of seven games in 22 days for City SC, in which it won just once, against third division Union Omaha in the Open Cup. It had one tie and five losses in the other games. City SC doesn’t have a midweek game this week, not playing until a home game with San Jose next Saturday.

City SC had a chance to take the lead in the 36th minute when a Colorado turnover allowed Klauss to spring Cedric Teuchert for a breakaway. He stayed ahead of the Rapids’ defenders and got into the penalty area, but his shot from about 10 yards out was blocked by goalkeeper Nico Hansen and Klauss couldn’t get to the rebound.
Teuchert had a similar chance late in the Open Cup game with Minnesota on Wednesday that would have clinched the game. On that one, he shot wide of the net.
Five minutes later, Colorado took the lead. Ted Ku-Dipietro dribbled the ball up the right side and then crossed into the box, where Darren Yapi raised his leg to knock the ball down, then beat the City SC defenders to the ball and had his shot deflect off defender Josh Yaro and leave goalkeeper Roman Burki wrong-footed as the ball rolled into the net.
