City SC beat writer Tom Timmermann and guest Justin Horneker of 51黑料 Magazine talk about an amazing game for 51黑料 City SC, in which the team took 41 shots against shorthanded Dallas and came away with only one goal and a 1-1 tie, a frustrating result that, in a season of frustrating results, may have been the most frustrating one yet.

Brendan McSorley begins crash course in proving he belongs with 51黑料 City SC
When 51黑料 City SC signed forward Brendan McSorley to a first-team contract Friday for the remainder of the season, the big change, he said, was not so much for him.
鈥淓very day,鈥 McSorley said Tuesday, 鈥渁lways trying to prove to myself that I belong here and making sure my work ethic matches it. Nothing鈥檚 really going to change for me. My mom might be a little more excited for the games, and nervous, but nothing鈥檚 really going to change for me.鈥

51黑料 City SC can't finish its chances, gets a 1-1 tie that stings like a loss
The number of ways a team can fail to win a soccer game is apparently not finite, because 51黑料 City SC continues to find new and maddening ways to do it.
On Saturday at Energizer Park, City SC played a man up for 74 minutes and could manage only one goal despite 41 shots, 14 of which were on goal. City SC spent most of the second half hanging around the penalty area of FC Dallas and had absolutely nothing to show for it, other than the level of frustration that grows with every game and every defeat, even if this one goes in the books as a 1-1 tie.

SLU gets the Bronze Boot back with 2-1 win over SIUE
51黑料 University found its offense and recovered the Bronze Boot on Sunday night.
The trophy the Billikens get to keep for a year, and how long the offense lasts will be a major factor for this year鈥檚 team. After scoring just twice in its first four games, 16th-ranked SLU scored twice in the second half, then hung on for a 2-1 win over Southern Illinois Edwardsville before 2,245 fans at Hermann Stadium as the series returned to campus after two seasons at Energizer Park. SLU recaptured the trophy and bragging rights after the Cougars had won the game the past two years.
Even with an extra man for most of game, 51黑料 can only get a 1-1 tie with Dallas
51黑料 City SC had a one-goal lead and a one-man advantage on FC Dallas in the first half on Saturday night and even with that going for it, couldn鈥檛 get a win.
City SC did snap its three-game losing streak, but now has a four-game winless streak after playing Dallas to a 1-1 tie at Energizer Park. City SC had chance after chance after chance, and then a few more, but ran into two red-hot Dallas goalkeepers who stopped almost everything that came their way. City SC spent much of the second half in and around Dallas鈥 box and couldn鈥檛 get anything to go in. City SC had a man advantage from the 16th minute on but got only one goal despite taking 39 shots, 14 of which were on goal.

Josh Sargent needs his club success to cross over to U.S. national team as World Cup nears
The numbers look great for Josh Sargent in his bid to make the U.S. roster for the 2026 World Cup. The O鈥橣allon, Missouri, native has six goals in five games over all competitions to start his season with Norwich City in the Championship, the second division of English soccer. This comes after 15 goals in 2024-25 and 16 goals in 2023-24.
The numbers look bad for Josh Sargent. He hasn鈥檛 scored for the U.S. national team in six years, covering 16 games. He was on the U.S. roster for the 2022 World Cup, played in the first three games but didn鈥檛 score, putting a header off the post in the game against Wales. For someone whose job in the lineup is to score goals, that鈥檚 a lot of zeroes.
