Blues goalie Jordan Binnington (50) and center Brayden Schenn (10) celebrate after defeating the Ducks during a shootout Sunday, April 7, 2024, in Anaheim, Calif.
The Blues’ season is over as a team but not necessarily for its players. Goaltender Jordan Binnington and captain Brayden Schenn are headed to Europe for the world hockey championships, which begin Friday.
Binnington and Schenn will represent Canada in the tournament. Two other Blues, Alexandre Texier (France) and Dalibor Dvorsky (Slovakia), will represent their homelands.
This will be the second time this year Binnington has represented Canada in an international event, having started every game for them in the 4 Nations Face-Off. He was also in goal for Canada in the 2024 world championships, going 6-2-0 in eight games as Canada dropped the bronze-medal game to Sweden. Canada’s goalie corps also includes Marc-Andre Fleury, who just retired from the NHL.
For Schenn, it’s his first action with Canada since the 2017 world championships and his eighth time overall. But his trips have been lucrative: He won gold at the 2008 U-18 world juniors and the 2015 world championships and silver at the 2010 and 2011 U-20 world juniors and the 2017 world championships. Ex-Blue Ryan O’Reilly is also on the Canada roster.
