Those playoff Blues were tough. Sure, you beat them in double overtime of Game 7, but this was a young hockey club on the rise. If anything, they were the "Jets."

Matthew DeFranks: Good afternoon! Today will be a little bit shorter of a chat with it being a game day and all. So let's get right into it.

In a 40-minute sit-down with a few local reporters on Tuesday morning, Blues general manager Doug Armstrong expressed frustration with how this season has gone, confusion about its problem’s origins and an openness to change the core of the roster.

“We haven’t been able to really just become a functioning, stable group for a long period of time,� Armstrong said. “It’s disappointing because I thought this year was going to be different and I think organizationally, the people around us felt it was going to be different. I think the NHL in general thought we would be a different team that our record shows we are, and that’s disappointing.�

The Blues claimed forward Jonatan Berggren off waivers from the Red Wings on Tuesday afternoon, adding a healthy forward to fortify an injured group up front.

Berggren, 25, had two goals and four assists in 15 games for Detroit this season before he was waived Monday. He’s played 169 NHL games in his career, all with the Red Wings, totaling 31 goals and 33 assists.

The losses might as well bleed into each other at this point for the Blues.

The wake of a 5-2 loss to the Predators on Monday night provided more familiar waves for 51ºÚÁÏ.

For the second time this week, the Blues lost to one of the few teams below them in the NHL standings.

In a 5-2 loss to the Predators on Monday night, the Blues lost again to Nashville after last week's 7-2 defeat to the Predators. Dalibor Dvorsky scored twice for the Blues, and Joel Hofer allowed four goals.

With another loss to Nashville on Monday, the Blues picked up their third defeat in four games.

Blues captain Brayden Schenn defended his play in the final seconds of Friday’s 3-2 win over the Blackhawks, when Chicago star Connor Bedard left the game with an upper-body injury.

With 0.8 seconds remaining in the game, there was a faceoff in the Blues zone, where Schenn took on Bedard. Schenn tied up Bedard’s stick and then pushed him to the ice. Bedard immediately grabbed his right shoulder, then skated off the ice.

The Blues have lost another key piece for an extended time.

Forward Dylan Holloway suffered a right high-ankle sprain during Sunday morning’s practice and will be out six weeks, coach Jim Montgomery announced Monday morning. Holloway got tangled up with Pavel Buchnevich about 30 minutes into practice Sunday and then had to be helped off the ice, unable to put weight on his right leg.

The Blues responded vigorously and violently one night after their captain Brayden Schenn and head coach Jim Montgomery basically called out the team’s character.

The encouraging part of the response wasn’t just that it happened. After all, you’d expect a response from guys at this level with their ability, pride and competitive nature.
