ST. LOUIS COUNTY — An EF-1 tornado hit a 6.8-mile-long section of Wildwood and Chesterfield between 2:50 and 3 p.m. Wednesday, the National Weather Service has confirmed.
Brad Charboneau, a Weather Service meteorologist, said Thursday that survey crews determined that the tornado touched down near Babler Park Drive and Highway 109 in Wildwood and continued to near Highway 40 (Interstate 64) in Chesterfield, east of the Topgolf facility.
He said the storm mainly caused tree damage but there was minor roof and siding damage to some houses. Officials also said there were downed power lines and power outages.
The Weather Service said wind speeds in the tornado area reached an estimated 107 mph. The EF scale, which goes from 0 to 5, assigns a severity rating based on wind speeds and damage, with 5 being the most severe.
The deadly tornado that hit 51ºÚÁÏ on May 16 had an EF-3 rating.
