All-Metro boys wrestling first team

Carter Brown, Lafayette
Carter Brown, sophomore, Lafayette
Brown finished off a 43-4 campaign with a 10-0 major decision in the Class 4 title match at 215 pounds. He dominated at Mizzou Arena, posting two major decisions, a technical fall and a 46-second pin. He finished third at 175 as a freshman.聽

Caleb Carter, Whitfield
Caleb Carter, senior, Whitfield
Carter (42-6) dropped a sudden-victory decision in the Class 3 title match at 138 after placing third as a junior and fourth as a sophomore. Helped Whitfield finish third as a team, finishing in the top four for the 15th consecutive season.

Drake Champlin, Wood River
Drake Champlin, senior, Wood River
Champlin (43-1) captured the Class 1A championship at 215 pounds with a 7-3 decision over Lena-Winslow's Jeremiah Luke. He was runner-up and as a junior. Champlin also is a standout in baseball and football.

Wyatt Dannegger, Francis Howell North
Wyatt Dannegger, sophomore, Francis Howell North
Dannegger put finishing touch on 35-0 season with a pin in the Class 4 final at 106 pounds after a 1-0 semifinal win over CBC freshman Kosta Hatzigeorgiou. As a freshman, Dannegger fell one victory short of a state medal.

Camron Duffield, Parkway South
Camron Duffield, sophomore, Parkway South
After runner-up finish last year, Duffield (42-2) left nothing to chance this time around, winning 24-8 for a tech fall in the Class 4 title match at 138. He outscoring his state tournament opponents by a whopping 75-17.聽

Caleb Dyer, Lutheran St. Charles
Caleb Dyer, freshman, Lutheran St. Charles
Dyer (48-5) rallied after a third-place finish at district to become the Cougars' first state champion. At state, he followed up on two major decisions with one-point victories in the semifinals and Class 2 title match at 106.

Jaxson Mathenia, Waterloo
Jaxson Mathenia, sophomore, Waterloo
Mathenia (43-3) made the most of his second state trip, reaching the Class 2A final at 215 pounds, where he lost 5-0 to Washington's Josh Hoffer. All of Mathenia's losses this season came against competitors who captured state titles.

Tyson Rakers, Highland
Tyson Rakers, senior, Highland
Rakers (46-3) dominated to reach the Class 2A championship match at 157 pounds; there, he ran into University of Illinois commit Wyatt Medlin, who now has two state titles. Also a football standout, Rakers placed third as a junior.

Colin Rutlin, CBC wrestling
Colin Rutlin, sophomore, CBC
One of the area's tougher competitors, Rutlin now has a pair of Class 4 runner-up medals. He finished this season at 47-4, losing 8-4 in the title match. Rutlin had two pins and a tech fall at the state tournament this season.

Rome Tate, Whitfield

Whitfield's lone state champion this season, Tate (42-6) dominated at Mizzou Arena with four major decision wins at 150 pounds. He placed fifth at state as a sophomore and was third as a junior.

Lyndon Thies, Roxana
Lyndon Thies, junior, Roxana
Thies (45-3) earned his second consecutive state medal, finishing as Class 1A runner-up at 165 pounds with a 7-4 loss in the title match. Thies placed third at state as a sophomore.

Jackson Tucker, Hillsboro
Jackson Tucker, senior, Hillsboro
Slowed at start of season by offseason shoulder surgeries, Tucker (20-0) dominated en route to his third state title and fourth title match appearance. He pinned Whitfield's Jackson Bassett for Class 3 title at 144. Tucker will continue career at Arkansas Little Rock.

Carter Wallis, Hillsboro
Carter Wallis, junior, Hillsboro
A state champion as a freshman and sophomore, Wallis met archrival Aiden Hahn of Farmington in Class 3 title match at 126 and fell short. Still, he finished 38-8 and helped second-place Hillsboro win a state trophy for fifth consecutive season.

Pierre Walton, East 51黑料
Pierre Walton, senior, East 51黑料
With second-round pin of Lombard Montini's Santino Tanuta for Class 2A title at 165 pounds, Walton (42-4) became Flyers' first state champ since Gene Couch won 95-pound title in 1943. Walton won by fall in first round, then advanced to final with 8-4 and 6-5 decisions.
All-Metro boys wrestling second team
Yashua Amen, senior, Whitfield
A three-time state medalist, Amen (41-5) was the Class 3 runner-up at 132 pounds.
Jackson Bassett, junior, Whitfield
Bassett (44-5) ran into a standout in the finals and ended up with his second runner-up medal.
Leo Buchheit, senior, North Point
Back-to-back third-place state finishes for Buchheit (45-5), a third-team selection last year.
Brandon Green, junior, Roxana
Green (41-1) rallied to take third after suffering 8-4 loss in the semis to eventual state champ.
Lucas Meier, senior, Northwest
Another third-place state finish for Meier (42-4), who bounced back after injuries last season.
Carter Pryor, freshman, Hillsboro
Pryor (38-7) was a state runner-up for the Hawks, who finished second in Class 3.
Brock Ross, junior, Mascoutah
Ross (47-5) qualified third at sectionals but came on strong for Class 2A runner-up finish.
Bradley Ruckman, senior, Civic Memorial
Ruckman (43-4) was runner-up at 132 in Class 2A. He placed sixth in 2022, fourth in 2023.
Kanyon Shurtz, senior, Fort Zumwalt South
Shurtz (41-7) pinned his way to Class 3 state final but fell short against a two-time champion.
Reggie Thomas, senior, STEAM Academy聽
Thomas (40-10) finished as runner-up at 285 in Class 2, losing to a two-time finalist.
All-Metro boys wrestling third team
Trey Craig, junior, CBC
Transfer from Liberty in KC took third at 190, finished 43-6 with another state medal.
Samuel Golden, sophomore, Francis Howell Central
Golden (36-7) took third at 175 in Class 4; his only state loss was to the eventual champion.
Roman Janek, junior, Edwardsville
Janek (37-6) took fourth at 215 and helped the Tigers reach the Class 3A team quarterfinals.
Jesse Lane, senior, Brentwood
A two-time state medalist, Lane (38-7) lost to the eventual champ but rallied to take third.
Manny McCauley, senior, Warrenton
Placed third after a semifinal loss to two-time state champ and finished the season 42-3.
Deacon Moran, junior, Fort Zumwalt North
A state runner-up last year, Moran (47-3) dropped a pair of tight matches in Columbia.
Griffin Morris, junior, Hillsboro
Morris (29-6) lost 3-0 in the semis to the eventual state champ, rallied to take third place.
Chance Ruble, sophomore, Seckman
A two-time medalist, Ruble (39-6) placed third at 150. He lost 4-2 in semis to a three-time finalist.
Peyton Shaver, senior, St. Pius X
Back-to-back third-place state finishes for Shaver, who won 48 of 52 matches this season.
Riley Sumner, sophomore, Lafayette
Another third-place medal and third-team All-Metro honor for Sumner (42-7).
Belleville East junior Jonathan Rulo is the All-Metro boys wrestler of the year. Rulo became East's first boys wrestling state champion in February.
